Computing in Poorer Countries part three.
Gathering my thoughts for this post what are the chances for someone to be able to acquire the need knowledge in developing computer repair skills in a country that is concerned to be one of the poorer in the world. Countries like Indonesia, Malissa, Burma, China yes China is a country of great wealth and great poverty as with all developed countries and non developing countries.....
Just like America, our middle working class are now the new poor, as in Japan, prior to the 1988,
failure of Japan's economy it was the richest country in Asia. The average factory worker earned $65,000.00 per year. A school teacher earned $60,000.00 per year. Japan at the time had more millionaires that any country per population. Yet those that work in the food industry factories that make the thousands of prepackaged lunch meals or dinner meals are some of the lowest paid workers in country and have dead end jobs.
How did I learn this, well at one time I worked in the tourist industry Captaining small vessels that transported tourist to a resort island on the Barrier reef on the southern of the island of Guam and have a now limited knowledge of the Japanese language as I studied it for 2 years in High School.
I have spoken with many of the tourist that I have transported to the resort. Even dated a few of the young ladies I met, and have friends at that time that live in Japan that I have known for many years. We talked with each other, and I developed a good understanding of the culture and economic structure.
The fact that I was raised in part by an second generation in America Japanese family has not hurt me any; as a child went to Japan several times and learned to love the country and it's people. As an adult I work on ships that come into Japanese ports to deliver cargo and receive containers of good imported in America. As I am an merchant sailor.
The Japanese are the most computer and electronic toy mongers in the world. But everything is very expensive in the country being an Island Nation every raw material is imported. Their software engineers are some of the best in the world.
Getting back to why Japan is one of the poorer countries after the economic failure of Japan incomes were slashed by half, computers cost more in Japan than in America, today and have been for a number of years same with cell phones. There are many in Japan who are starting out in he world of employment that simply cannot afford to buy a computer at this time in the country's history.
Japan's population is on the decline, and has been for a number of years, I read estimates that Japan will be importing 30% of its work force by the year 2010 which was 2 years ago, what we Americans do not realise is that there are 1,000's of Koreans that have been living in Japan for many generations that are not Japanese citizens. In the night life business there are thousands of women who work in the country that are from China, Korea, Philippines, Columbia, Thailand, that all desire computers and the knowledge of computing. Internet access to communicate with love ones back home.
But when I say cell phone in Japan it is not a cell phone it is a credit card, debit card your Internet access, your alarm clock with 10 different alarm clock settings to remind you as to what time you have to be somewhere. There are vending machine that have motion detectors that cause a micro chip to activate a speaker that invites you to purchase hot coffee not one but several different kinds and brands or hot chocolate. Hot soup in a can near the train stations. there is a pad on the vending machine that reads your cell phone and you pay for your purchases with it. The vending machines are connected to the Internet using a wireless connection. Now that is computing in Japan.
When growing up names like Sony, Akai, Sanyo, Sansui, Panasonic (Would include Sharp except it is an American Corporation) in America were house hold words and all of our electronics were made in Japan. These companies no longer make these products in Japan but in China many of the names of these companies are no longer house hold words in America.
This was due in part to the United States Government shifting to China as the Most Favored Trading Nation as the cost of our electronics being manufactured in Japan were starting to get a little expensive, Naturally our American Manufactures, and import/export companies that have great influence of on our Government and our trading partners wanted a cheaper source to make the goods that we import into this country.
Additionally Japanese business have become more Environmental aware and the electronic manufacture started to look else where as in America, where our Environmental Protection Agencies federal and State have cause many of our business to stop manufacturing with in the country as the cost of compliance is prohibitive. Thus causing factories to close, and investments made in the country of largest population in the world, China.
Why China, well for starters all business are owned in part by the government, second there are very few Environmental requirement in the country's factories. Incomes are low in factories. To date the majority of electronics are manufactured in the country. Motherboard manufacturing companies weather Asian owned, American, European find the cost to fall within their marketing for the products to make a good profit based on volume sales.
The employees of the electronic manufacturing plants have jobs and desire cell phones and computers, TVs, Radios, which they can buy at whole sale prices to assist in educating themselves in computer repair for side line work. If you know how to build the motherboards you can repair them. There are thousand of electronic stores in China.
Apartments in modern day China are furnished in the same manner as our houses in America and the population desires the same thing as the rest of the world TVs, microwaves, beds western style with big mattresses, the list goes on. DVD movies cellphones. DVD players Sony Blue Ry Players Computer gaming, X-Boxes for their individual entertainment. Home theaters, and no the DVD recorders which have hard drives that we record movies from TVs and the Internet.
I have a Question, do we really need DVD Recorders in this world? All they are is a computer with a hard drive and hard drives are designed to eventually fail as they use 2 motors in near microscopic form. All hard drives have a PC board that includes a processor some have 2 processors like WD Black do in the SATA 3 hard drives. They all have their own bios which through the cable communicates with the processor and motherboard chips north and south bridge.
